About Ruth
My Yoga Journey
Yoga has been my lifelong companion, a constant and calming presence amidst an ever-changing and challenging world. For decades, I was devoted to the Ashtanga Tradition, relishing its vigorous practices. These days, however, you'll often find me blissfully draped over a bolster, embracing the serenity of deep breaths. Yoga has always been my rock, my sanctuary, a place that feels like home every time I step onto the mat.
Becoming a yoga teacher was never part of my plan. As a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, I frequently recommended yoga to my patients to help alleviate stress, anxiety, and chronic health issues. However, many returned with tales of feeling intimidated by studio classes, believing they weren't flexible or strong enough. Their stories touched my heart and ultimately inspired me to start teaching.
My classes began humbly in the waiting room of my acupuncture practice. As more and more students joined, we transitioned to a Pilates studio, and eventually, I opened my own space, Studio Grace, in Santa Fe. Those were some of the most cherished days of my life!
When Covid shut everything down in early 2020, my classes moved online, and they've remained virtual ever since. This shift has allowed me to connect with a wider audience. One of the unexpected joys of teaching online is seeing my students' pets join in. It's not uncommon to start class with a cat or dog curled up on a yoga mat, eagerly staring at the camera. Some even have their own mats now!
Each day, I am grateful to share the gift of yoga with a diverse and vibrant community, both human and furry alike.
